Sugar Mountain Ski Resort
Sugar Mountain Ski Resort features 115 acres of skiable terrain, making it the biggest ski area in the NC Mountains. The top elevation of Sugar Mountain is 5,300 feet and boasts incredible panoramic views from the peak. With a base elevation of 4100 feet, Sugar also holds the designation of having the largest vertical drop at 1200 feet. Sugar Mountain features 20 slopes with the longest being 1.5 miles long. Beginning skiers will love the Easy Street Slope because it is isolated from the other slopes. Beginners will also appreciate Easy Street, Little Nell, and Lower Flying Mile. Intermediate skiers will love the Upper Flying Mile, Sugar Slalom, Big Red and Sugar Bear. Sugar Mountain is perfect for expert skiers with Tom Terrific and Boulder Dash. For the true dare devil expert skiers, you can take on the only double-black diamond run in the area, Whoopdedoo Run.
Snowboarders will want to check out the terrain park, complete with jumps, rails, jibs, pipes and more. Tubing is also a fun activity for the entire family with a Magic Carpet lift to take you back to the top. New to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is snowshoeing guided tours and a 10,000 square foot refrigerated outdoor ice skating rink. Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is located at 1009 Sugar Mountain Drive in Banner Elk NC. From Banner Elk, you are only 15 miles from Boone NC, home of the 3 time national champion Appalachian State Mountaineers, and only 27 miles from Todd NC.
